Developing World Markets (DWM) seeks a Director of Impact (DI) to join an international team of professionals to support the firm’s impact investing mission. Job location is flexible, but the Director of Impact will work closely with DWM staff primarily in the US (East Coast) and Europe. We expect the director to lead and expand an already robust impact commitment, solidify existing processes, and improve on the impact measurement and reporting and external brand awareness.

The Director will report to the Co-Managing Partners of the Firm, but will work closely with the Impact Committee, comprised of the members of the senior leadership team.

Founded in 1994, DWM is a return-first impact focused asset manager with over 25 years of experience investing in emerging and frontier markets. DWM began impact investing in 1999 and shifted exclusively to impact in 2007. Responsibilities will include: 

  • Delivery of the firm’s annual impact report and lead impact measurement and reporting for all funds as well as develop and execute on a content-creation and knowledge dissemination strategy 
  • Oversee adherence to processes/ requirements for operating principles for impact management and lead process for independent verification 
  • Provide thought leadership on DWM’s impact contributions on relevant impact topics for broader industry consumption 
  • Identify opportunities across the portfolio to extend DWM’s impact and engage with TA partners/ funding sources to build out impact activities at the firm/ portfolio
  • Act as liaison between firm and investors on all matters regarding impact, including but not limited to engagement, frameworks and reporting
  • Broaden DWM’s public impact profile via some or all of the following: interaction with 3rd party impact organizations such as GIIN, ImpactAlpha, ImpactAssets, OPIM, Bloomberg Green, publication of whitepapers on impact topics relevant to DWM, speaking engagements at conferences and impact fora 
  • Lead exploratory due diligence into new impact sectors to ensure DWM maintains “Impact Integrity” as it enters new sectors and if entry ensues, lead development of new impact frameworks

Candidate must possess the following background and skill sets:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, (Advanced degree preferred)
  • 7-10+ years of impact related experience in emerging and frontier markets (impact areas related to financial inclusion preferred)
  • High proficiency in impact and ESG frameworks, reporting, and industry best practices (UN SDGs, IRIS+, SPTF, HIPSO)
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders at senior management levels
  • Highly Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel & PowerPoint in particular)
